Respiratory Support Services include:

  • Sleep Unit
  • Overnight screening studies for Respiratory abnormalities
  • Inpatient Services for establishing respiratory support
  • Home Respiratory Support including oxygen, CPAP, and non-invasive ventilation.
  • The Long Term Ventilation Unit (LTVU)
  • SIDS research
  • Sleep Apnoea Research

The service team includes a Medical Head (A/Prof Karen Waters), and sleep Medicine Consultants (Dr Chris Seton and A/Prof Dominic Fitzgerald), a Clinical Manager (Mr. Victor Tan), Clinical Nurse Consultant (Sara McGregor) and a Scientific Officer (Ms Carla Evans/Ms Rebecca Hensley). We offer outpatient clinical services for review of patients with sleep disorders, overnight sleep studies to diagnose sleep problems and sleep studies as well as screening studies to prioritise and monitor treatment.

How to make a referral:

For new or follow-up outpatient referrals: Outpatient appointments are made by telephoning 9845 2525. A letter of referral should be faxed to our secretary on 9845 3396 or sent directly to one of the Sleep Unit physicians. Bookings and enquiries can also be made via the secretary on 9845 3437. For enquiries regarding the Sleep Unit, Sleep Studies, or to make Sleep Clinic bookings, please phone 9845 3437. Private patient referrals should be directed to the relevant Physician numbers.

Physicians include Dr Karen Waters (no Private clinics), Dr Dominic Fitzgerald (Private patients: 9845 3397), or Dr Chris Seton (Private patients 0423 523 840).

For new or follow-up inpatient referrals: The Respiratory Fellow/Registrar should be notified. This includes patients who require establishment, or discharge on any of the above listed Respiratory Support treatments (oxygen, CPAP, and non-invasive ventilation). When a Fellow is available specifically for Sleep Medicine, they are contactable through the switchboard. Please also check for request forms on the intranet to supply items such as home oxygen.

Donations for Equipment should be directed to "Kids Sleep".

Donations for Research should be directed to "SIDS & Sleep Apnoea Research".
