Middleton Unit admits children for Day Only Surgery and Day of Surgery Admission at CHW.Families  arrive at appointed times and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Day of Surgery children are transferred to an allocated ward following their surgery in the Operating Suite.

Day Only Surgery children are recovered in our own Recovery and transferred to a Post-operative  Lounge where they are prepared for discharge. Verbal and written instructions and after hours contact information is given to the parents.

How to make an appointment:

Children are referred to a surgeon by their GP for an appointment in their rooms or Outpatients Department clinic.

The surgeon completes either:

• Day Surgery form for Day Only Surgery admissions
• Elective Surgical Admission papers for Day of Surgery admissions.

Parents  need to complete a health questionnaire; some children may need to attend a Pre-admission clinic prior to surgery.

Parents will receive a letter with the planned admission date and information they will require.
