The Department of Clinical Genetics coordinates the following clinics:

• General Paediatric Genetics clinic
• Connective Tissue Dysplasia clinic
• Neurogenetics clinic
• Genetic Eye clinic
• Genetic Dermatology clinic
• Prenatal Genetics clinic (Westmead Hospital)
• Adult Genetics clinic (Westmead Hospital), including Adult Connective Tissue Disorders, Enzyme Replacement Therapy and Huntington Disease Predictive Testing Program

Genetic diagnostic consultation and counselling is also offered in association with the following clinics:

• Limb Deficiency clinic (with Rehabilitation)
• Craniofacial clinic (with Plastic Surgery)
• Fragile X clinic (with CDU)

Outreach clinics are provided to Greater Southern and Greater Western Area Health Services at Wagga Wagga/Griffith and at Orange respectively.

Referrals for familial cancer counselling may be redirected to the Familial Cancer Service based at Westmead Hospital.

How to make an appointment:

Referrals can be made by paediatricians, general practitioners or other medical practitioners. A current valid referral letter is required for all appointments. Doctors wishing to discuss whether or not referral to a genetics clinic is appropriate are welcome to contact the on-call geneticist or genetic counsellor on 9845 3273.

For urgent referrals or inpatient consultations contact the on-call Fellow in Genetics or the geneticist on call (telephone the Department or page via the Hospital switchboard).

For clinics at The Children's Hospital at Westmead or Westmead Hospital telephone the Department of Clinical Genetics on (02) 9845 3273 or fax (02) 9845 3204.

For the Wagga Wagga clinic telephone Ms Jillian Bleazby, Associate Genetic Counsellor, at Genetic Health, Wagga Wagga Base Hospital on (02) 6938-6443. For the Orange clinic, telephone Ms Gillian Shannon, Associate Genetic Counsellor, at Bathurst Community Health Centre on (02) 6339 5677.

Please note: If patients live closer to another Clinical Genetics service which can offer an appropriate service for the patient, we may recommend contacting that service, as waiting lists are often shorter elsewhere.  Other Clinical Genetics services in Sydney are available at Nepean Hospital, Penrith (02 4734 3439), Liverpool Hospital (02 98284679), Royal North Shore Hospital (02 4734 3362), Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Camperdown (02 9515 5080), Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick (02 9382 1704) and St George Hospital, Kogarah (9350 2315). Not all sites offer a full range of sub-speciality genetics clinics.
