Services
The Children's Hospital Burns unit is the Paediatric arm of NSW Severe Burns Service and is the referral centre for all major paediatric burns in NSW. The unit consists of a total of 8 beds comprising 2 Paediatric Intensive Care Unit beds and 6 inpatient beds on Clubbe Ward at the Children's Hospital at Westmead. Approximately 1000 children year undergo treatment in the unit, 200 as inpatients on Clubbe ward and 800 as out patients in the NSW Fire Brigades Burns and Plastic Surgery Treatment centre. All aspects of acute burns care and reconstructive surgery are undertaken on the unit as well as programs for physical, psychological and social rehabilitation for children and their families after discharge. The unit conducts an active research program, through The Children's Hospital Burns Research Institute, and acts in concert with the Child Safety Centre and Kidsafe to promote burns education.

Enquiries regarding Outpatient appointments should be directed to 9845 1114. Acute burns All acute burns requiring discussion or admission should be referred to the surgical registrar on call 9845 0000 who is responsible for contacting the burns surgeon on 24 hour call or via NETS on 96338720 who will set up a conference call with the burns surgeon on call . All acute burns are referred initially to the emergency department or to PICU. Outpatient burns Children requiring review or in need of consultation are seen in the Burns and Plastic treatment centre. Advice about dressings is available during office hours.
