Service

The Muscle Management Rehabilitation program is proudly sponsored by the Canterbury Bulldogs Football Club. The Program provides comprehensive and coordinated spasticity management for children and adolescents, including assessment and treatment of spasticity, coordination of ongoing spasticity managements, as well as conducting research, producing publications and providing education and training to fellow clinicians within the wider community.

When a child is referred to the Muscle Management Rehabilitation Program, the team will assess the amount of spasticity, consider the developmental level of the child and assess the child's underlying strength and control of muscles. The team can then decide on appropriate management taking into consideration the family's preferences and needs.

Who can attend?

The MMRP sees children from birth to school leaving age who experience severe spasticity as part of their physical disability. Families can be referred by their GP, Paediatrician, Rehabilitation Specialist or treating therapist with a written referral. With the family's permission, a questionnaire is sent to the child's community therapist/s to obtain information about ongoing therapy goals and concerns. Involved therapists are welcome to attend the clinic.

What programs are available?

Some of the treatment options for the management of spasticity include:

  • Oral spasticity medications (including Baclofen)
  • Botulinum Toxin A
  • Intrathecal Baclofen
  • Casting and orthotics
  • Movement control training
