Specialist School Counsellor
The Specialist School Counsellor- Acquired Brain Injury is employed by the Department of Education and Training and works at the hospital one day a week with the Rehabilitation team. The role of the Specialist School Counsellor is to assist the Rehabilitation team and school plan for a child's return to school or look at alternative school options.
This may involve:
- Gathering information from a child's school about a child's academic and social performance before their injury.
- Assisting with special education provisions such as applications for special school or special class placements, transport or teacher aide funding.
- Conducting educational sessions for teaching staff with the rehabilitation team about acquired brain injury.
