Finding Therapy Services At School
Disclaimer: This information sheet is for education purposes only. Please consult with your doctor or other health professional to make sure this information is right for your child.
Some schools offer therapy services. If your child attends a school and has therapy needs (either physiotherapy, speech or occupational therapy) it is very useful to find out the following information. This will help therapists with the Brain Injury Service work out how therapy can be provided to your child in the most effective and timely way. You should be able to have these questions answered by school personnel such as the principal, school counsellor, year adviser or integration coordinator.
What Questions Should I Ask?
- Does this school have any therapists who visit other students?
- What is the name of the organisation/s that provide these therapy services?
- How can I know if my child is eligible for these services?
- What kind of services will be provided to my child? Individual? Groups? Splinting?
- How are referrals made so my child can receive therapy services?
- How long will my child have to wait before they are seen?
- Are there any costs involved with having therapy provided by the current therapists who come to the school? What are they?
- How often will you be able to see my child?
- Will my child be seen at school?
