Camp LionHeart

What is Camp LionHeart?

Camp LionHeart is an annual two day camp held for younger children with disabilities who are part of the Rehabilitation Service.

Children (aged 7 -13 years) are given the chance to try new activities, to meet other children who have had similar life experiences and to facilitate opportunities to increase skills in independent self care and social skills. Camp LionHeart is staffed by members of the Brain Injury Team at The Children's Hospital at Westmead, who provide a caring, supportive environment for the children to try new activities such as flying fox, low ropes, giant swing, abseiling and swimming during the camp.

Camp LionHeart 2006

This years Camp LionHeart will be held at Mangrove Mountain on the 3rd and 4th of November.

Why run Camp LionHeart?

The aim of Camp LionHeart is to have fun, and to provide campers with an opportunity to

  • Be in a supportive environment with staff who understand brain injury
  • Try new things that you wouldn't normally have the opportunity to participate in
  • Spend time with children of the same age
  • Make new friends and catch up with old friends
  • Be one of the crowd, where funny scars,
  • Be away from parents and siblings

How can my child attend?

Families can contact the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Department to express an interest. Unfortunately, because there are often more interested children than places available, staff will contact those children who may benefit the most from attending camp.

Priority is given to those children who have not attended camp previously. If more applications are received than available places, a ballot will be conducted and children and will be selected randomly.
