Professional background
Russell trained at Leeds University, UK, graduating in 1992. He did most of his paediatric training in central London, and paediatric neurology training at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. He completed a PhD in neuroimmunology at Queen Square Neurology hospital (London) in 2004.
He was the clinical neurology fellow at the TY Nelson department of neurology in 2006, and became a staff specialist (neurology) and senior lecturer at CHW in 2007.
Special interest
- Russell is interested in all aspects of paediatric neurology.
- He has particular interest in paediatric movement disorders including Tourette syndrome.
- His other clinical and laboratory interest is autoimmune and inflammatory disorders of the central nervous system.
- He works with Stephen Koder in the tic and Tourette clinic.
Positions of responsibility
- Russell's University roles include teaching undergraduates and undergraduate curriculum development.
- He is the deputy postgraduate coordinator at the clinical school (CHW).
- He works with postdoctoral scientist (Fabienne Brilot) on scientific aspects of neuroinflammation at the CHW research laboratories.
- He supervises PhD student Esther Tantsis.
- He is involved in postgraduate paediatric neurology education at CHW.
