A/Prof Owler is an Australian trained neurosurgeon who completed his neurosurgical training at Westmead Hospital, Children's Hospital at Westmead and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He also spent 18 months performing neurosurgical research and training at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, UK
Special interest
CSF circulation disorders are of particular interest to A/Prof Owler. This includes hydrocephalus of children and adults as well as pseudotumor cerebri (idiopathic intracranial hypertension). A/Prof Owler undertook his PhD research on the topic of hydrocephalus. He has a laboratory that performs basic science research towards a cure for hydrocephalus and paediatric brain tumours.
In addition, A/Prof Owler's practice covers all aspects of neurosurgery including neurosurgical conditions of adults and children.
Positions of responsibility
A/Prof Owler is responsible for the Neurosurgical Research Laboratory at the Children's Hospital at Westmead. He is also responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of medical students and neurosurgical trainees at the Children's Hospital at Westmead.
A/Prof Owler is also the surgeon representative on the AMA NSW Branch Council.
