Ponseti Clubfoot Clinic

What is happening to the bones when my child is being cast?

Cast 1: Corrects cavus deformity, ie lifts first metatarsal

Cast 2: Start to externally rotate supinated & plantarflexed foot around lateral head of talus. (ie. abducting calcaneus under the talus.)

Cast 3, 4, 5: Continues this gradual progression, and all components of the deformity will correct simultaneously except for the last bit of equinus.
