Cleft Lip and Palate: A Parent's Guide

Chapter 20: Further Developments

With the passage of time, and continuing research and developments in this country and overseas, there are changes and improvements in the treatment of these cleft conditions. The people who are involved in treating clefts in this country keep in touch with these developments, by talking to people from other centres, by reading scientific journals and by attending conferences. When new and proven improvements in treatment are developed, they may cause some changes from the treatment programme outlined in this book, and treatment suggestions may be made that are not mentioned here. These differences in the timing or exact nature of the operations or other treatment will only be made once the value of the newer techniques has been assessed.
