CHISM Research
Overview
Since 1997, research at the Children's Hospital Institute of Sports Medicine (CHISM) has established innovative and leading investigations in the areas of musculoskeletal adaptations to exercise, sports injury surveillance in children and adolescents, and the effects of physical activity on chronic conditions in children including morbid obesity, haemophilia, hypermobility and spina bifida. The progress of CHISM research has been made possible through the generosity of the substantial initial research funds provided by the Children's Hospital at Westmead. Ongoing research has been supported by community organisations including the support of the Sargents Charitable Foundation.
The current aim of CHISM research is to advance knowledge in paediatric sports medicine via projects involving:
- Prospective intervention research
- Surveillance research
- Collaborative research involving medical, industry, Government, community and hospital-based services.
