Why Research?
Why do we do research and why does the Children's Hospital at Westmead invest so heavily in it? The simple answer is that research helps us to understand the health problems that our young patients have so that we can provide them with better care.
Some of the research projects described in this report have already had immediate benefit for the children we care for. Some are contributing to the total pool of knowledge in a particular field which will ultimately lead to significant progress.
Others are looking at how some of these health problems can be prevented.
The Hospital's investment in research is an investment in the health of our children. The fact that our research activity is growing, as measured by publications and competitive grants, is a good sign for the future of children's health.
