Advanced technology
The Paediatric Simulation Centre utilises a sophisticated user-friendly interface that connects all tutorial and simulation rooms to a central controlling room.
The Centre is an interactive teaching and learning space that is integrated, so that different audiences can observe and learn through activities in various rooms within the facility. Under the advanced set-up, there is the ability to capture images and sound from each room. These elements can then be packaged as learning tools for reviewing and to facilitate debriefing.
There is videoconferencing and telemedicine capacity for connectivity with external groups, particularly practitioners in rural areas who often have less access to training, but also expert groups around Australia and overseas.
An important aspect of the audio-visual facilities is that they are configured in a way that allows for cost-effective expansion and modification in the future. The Paediatric Simulation is a major part of The Children's Hospital at Westmead's future direction and the technology reflects this.
