Continual improvement

The Children's Hospital at Westmead takes improvement very seriously. So much so that they have a Service Improvement Unit that looks closely at the best way to implement improvements within the Hospital environment.

Many potential problems can be avoided through improved communication and a stronger team focus.

Scenarios based upon actual adverse incident reports are used by the Kim Oates Australian Paediatric Simulation Centre to train staff, not only to learn technical skills, but also to learn and develop vital communication skills that can mean the difference between life and death.

The Centre aims to foster a greater understanding and cooperation within and between healthcare teams by bringing staff from various disciplines together and by providing a focus on effective teamwork and communication.
