Child Weight Management Program

Referral Criteria
  1. Child aged 0-12 years (pre-High School)
  2. BMI for age standard deviation score > 3
  3. Referral letter from a paediatrician or psychiatrist, addressed to Professor Louise Baur. The letter should include information on height, weight, pathology or test results, relevant family history and contact details of the family, including phone numbers.

Appointments Families are contacted only after consideration of intake details, appropriateness and priority.
Multi Disciplinary Team Professor Louise Baur (Paediatrician), Ms Kerryn Chisholm (Dietician), Ms Gerri Minshall (Psychologist), Ms Amanda Herriott (Physiotherapist), Mrs Joanne Henderson (Clinical Nurse Consultant)
Program days Monday am every second fourth week
Functions of the program The child's family and caregivers are involved in a multidisciplinary approach to the weight management of the obese child.
New Families are offered in order
  1. A position in a 3-session Parent education program held three times a year.
  2. A triage assessment with a Clinical Nurse Consultant to assess health needs of the family
  3. A program Appointment of 5 sessions over 3 months.

Families will not proceed to the next level of appointment until attendance is complete at the previous sessions.
