Operation Art is a program which encourages young people to create artworks for children at The Children's Hospital at Westmead.
It is an initiative of The Children's Hospital at Westmead, The New South Wales Department of Education and Training and The Art Gallery of New South Wales while The Regional Touring Exhibition is supported through the generous partnership with The Nelson Meers Foundation.
Operation Art is a way of involving young people in the special work of The Children's Hospital at Westmead - a total healing environment where design, decoration, facilities, gardens and art combine with the best possible medical care to help heal all the patients.
Operation Art 2012 - ALL ENTRIES ARE IN!
Each year 50 Operation artworks are chosen to become part of the Hospital's permanent art collection. Before the artworks find their home in the Children's Hospital at Westmead they tour the state and share the talents of these incredibly artistic children with people from all corners of NSW.
The artworks range from the delightfully innocent paintings of kindergarten children, to the sophistication and assuredly skilful image making of high school students. There are artworks in a wide variety of media, from drawing and painting to collage, photography, printmaking, computer graphics and textiles.
A registered art gallery it in its own right, The Children's Hospital at Westmead has a large collection of paintings, sculpture, photographs and other artworks, which contribute to the holistic approach to healing for which it is renowned.
The exhibition is touring the state and could be in a gallery near you, why don't you go check it out? Tour dates for the 2011/2012 Touring Exhibition are:
