Camperdown Ward is a dynamic unit specialising in paediatric oncology and bone marrow transplantation. The Nursing Clinical Co-ordinator practices at the level of an expert clinician and is a clinical resource for nurses within the ward, hospital and wider healthcare community. The Nursing Clinical Co-ordinator is responsible for patient flow, co-ordination of care for patients within the ward and the management of resources, including provision of staff. The Nursing Clinical Co-ordinator provides clinical leadership, role modelling, mentorship and support and works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to achieve excellence in paediatric nursing care. The Nursing Clinical Co-ordinator will undertake a broad range of functions which support the Nurse Unit Manager in the management of the ward and the strategic and operational direction of Camperdown Ward within the broader hospital context.

The Institute for Neuromuscular Research (INMR) is based in the new research building at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, and is affiliated with the University of Sydney. Within the INMR, the Neuroinflammation group is investigating new and exciting hypotheses about the role of auto-antibodies in immune-mediated diseases in the central nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis and childhood movement disorders. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and energetic individual to join our group.
The position is suitable for individual with a strong background in immunology, neuroscience, or molecular biology. Applicants must have a BSc (Hons) degree or equivalent in the biological sciences. Expertise in tissue culture, immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry are essential, while experience in molecular biology and confocal microscopy are highly desirable. The NCIRS operates under the auspices of the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing. It aims to inform policy and planning for immunisation services in Australia and to develop initiatives which will improve surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases and immunisation adverse events. The research nurse is responsible for providing clinical support for clinical vaccine trials undertaken by NCIRS in collaboration with other Health organisations. Within the INMR, the 'Dysferlin and Membrane Repair' team are studying a form of muscular dystrophy caused by deficiency of the protein dysferlin. Our team is dissecting the molecular role of dysferlin in membrane repair and our research seeks to define functional domains within dysferlin mediating muscle membrane repair, and to identify other proteins involved as these may underlie new forms of muscular dystrophy. The Research Officer will continue an established research project and to contribute to the development of new research goals and objectives.
