Fresh Food Kids Hospital Appeal

Woolworths are a part of Australia's biggest corporate fundraising success stories. We are so grateful for their unwavering enthusiasm and support for our Hospital and our sick children which, to date, has raised close to $14 million. Each year, fundraising activities take many forms and include black-tie balls, trivia nights, sausage sizzles and cake drives, as well as raffle tickets and merchandise sold by the thousands.

The "faces" of this years Appeal are patients of The Children's Hospital at Westmead and you can meet them below:

Hospital Heroes

Jack O'Brien is five years old and has recently had a tumour removed from his Kidney. Jack comes to the Hospital every three months for a kidney check up. He likes the playroom in Oncology because there are lots of toys. Jake is very active and loves playing soccer and swimming. He goes to preschool three day a week where he loves playing with his friends.
Eleven year old Samantha Stibbard was born with complex congenital heart disease and has had a number of operations to help manage this condition. Along with her heart disease, she is visually impaired, has epilepsy and has had surgery on her back for scoliosis. Samantha enjoys physical culture, drawing and shopping. If she had one wish, she'd wish for a million dollars, so she could build a new house for her family. She'd like to thank Woolworths staff for helping all the sick kids get better.
Bill Callinan is seven and has type 1 diabetes. He loves to play touch footy, soccer and four wheel driving. He has a brother and a sister and loves it when his Dad takes him camping; they once drove over the Simpson Desert. He wishes that this world was chocolate and that there was no diabetes so he could eat it all. Bill is glad that he's supporting the Fresh Food Kids Hospital Appeal, because he can help raise money for The Children's Hospital.
Seven year old Charlie Munns has come to The Children's Hospital at Westmead every four weeks since he was seven weeks old because he has a genetic liver disease and needs a liver transplant. He loves playing with his mates, science projects, pets and loves to eat hot chips (with Woolworths Select Gravy!). Charlie wants to save the environment and make electro cars. Charlie wants to thank the Hospital staff for being so kind to him and the other kids.
Sarah Hulland is eleven years old and has cystic fibrosis. She goes to Hospital every 6 months to visit the Cystic Fibrosis clinic and have a lung function test and general check up. When Sarah gets sick, she sometimes has long stays in Hospital and loves the Starlight room and the clown doctors. Sarah's favourite foods include marshmallows and sweet and sour chicken and she loves playing soccer and riding motorbikes. If she could change one thing in the world, she'd stop whaling.
Holly Sultana is four years old and was born with a condition called arthrogryposis multiples congenita that affects her joints and muscles. She's had surgery on her legs and hips and goes to the Hospital for therapy to help her walk. At her therapy sessions, she's visited by Miss Dolly from the Delta Dogs, who she takes for walks. She loves craft, painting and making cakes. Her favourite foods are cheese sandwiches and bananas.
When eight year old Samantha Mackay was a baby she had bacterial meningitis and nearly died. Due to her illness, she has been left with a brain injury and very poor vision. She loves playing with her dolls and taking swimming and karate lessons which help to keep her healthy and strong. Her favourite food is two minute noodles with peas. She has three brothers and they go camping and to the beach. She loves to watch Better Homes & Gardens and RPA on TV. She doesn't mind being blind, because everyone helps her. She'd like to thank the Hospital for being amazing and Woolworths for raising money to help the sick kids of Australia.
Abbey-May Brown is seven years old and has spastic diplegic cerebral palsy, meaning that Abbey has difficulty using her legs to walk as her muscles are tight. At the Hospital, she receives botox injections and attends gym group which helps to make her body strong. Her favourite person in the world is her Mum, who tucks her in each night. She loves reading, playing with her dog Jack and eating Macaroni and Cheese. If she had one wish, it would be that she could walk by herself. She'd like to thank the Hospital staff for making her laugh when she doesn't feel like laughing.
Eight year old Robert Taylor has hypophosphatemic rickets and takes medication to keep his bones strong. He's been coming to The Children's Hospital for a long time and has had both his legs straightened, and is waiting for the bones in his left leg to knit back together so the frame can come off. Robert loves the playground at the Hospital – the Pirate Ship was his idea! He loves outdoor activities with his two older brothers and is a Cub Scout with Broken Bay Scout Group. If he could change one thing in the world, he'd change petrol prices.

The 'Fresh Food Kids Hospital Appeal' will provide vital funds for research, equipment and strategic clinical initiatives, enabling us to continue to deliver excellence in child healthcare. Many thanks to Woolworths, their staff and customers for their generous contribution, tremendous efforts and continued support!
