NAIDOC Week

On the first of July, 2008, the Children's Hospital at Westmead highlighted their commitment to Aboriginal Health in the ceremonial opening of NAIDOC Week, the annual celebration of Aboriginal culture.

The special unit for indigenous health care provide support for the families of children like Azelia Boney, by providing the Morisset residents with accommodation in a family hostel for the duration of their daughters stay at the hospital.
Cassandra Nowland, Azelia's mother, told the Parramatta Advertiser that the nearby accommodation was ideal, as it also was to be cared for ‘by people who understand their needs and culture'.
