2005 Health Budget

The Children's Hospital at Westmead will receive funding for a total of 16 additional beds as part of this year's $10.9 billion health budget, Health Minister Morris Iemma said today.

Mr Iemma said the NSW Government was responding to the growing demand for medical care by increasing the Children's Hospital budget by 6.3% this year to $163 million, an increase of $10 million.

The Children's Hospital at Westmead is one of three specialist paediatric facilities in NSW along with the Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick and John Hunter Hospital.

"The NSW Government has already announced a significant expansion of critical care facilities at the Children's Hospital at Westmead including an additional paediatric intensive care bed, an additional four ventilated beds, four additional special care cots and three additional surgical cots," Mr Iemma said.
