Skills and dedication captured forever
As part of The Children's Hospital at Westmead's celebrations for International Nurses Day, a series of 15 photographs are being displayed, capturing the various specialities of paediatric nursing. The photographs showcase the role of nurses in the provision of first class nursing care, highlighting the skills, compassion and expertise of each nurse.
The photographs have been taken over recent weeks including a variety of nurses with some of the patients for whom they are caring. The photographer, Emmanuel Angelicas, has donated his time to do the project, working on weekends to ensure that it has been completed. Joanna Capon (Honorary Curator) will launch the exhibition. Emmanuel is a well known Sydney photographer with work exhibited in many locations including the international airport. He has been a long time supporter of the Hospital, initially with his work on the "Handle with Care" book and more recently with the nursing project. Having been on the receiving end of the expert nursing care provided by the Hospital, Emmanuel knows how pivotal nurses are to the recovery of sick children.
"International Nurses Day is an opportunity to celebrate the amazing contribution of nurses in our Hospital. We thought that the photograph collection was a way of recording the face of nursing today. We are also holding a special afternoon tea for our nurses and have given children the opportunity to show their perceptions of nurses through their drawings," said Director of Clinical Care, Jenni Jarvis.
You are invited to join us for the official launch of the photography exhibit at 10 AM on Monday 12 May. The photographs will become part of the Hospital's art collection to be enjoyed by staff and families for years to come.
