Sports Medicine Clinic
Announcing the establishment of the inaugural Sports Medicine Clinic for Children and Adolescents at The Children's Hospital at Westmead.
The Children's Hospital at Westmead is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Carolyn Broderick as the inaugural Staff Specialist in Paediatric Sports Medicine. Dr Broderick will head the clinical services within the Children's Hospital Institute of Sports Medicine (CHISM).
The clinical service will focus initially on the treatment, diagnosis and rehabilitation of children and adolescents who suffer sports related injuries. The clinical service will also assist in the rehabilitation of children with chronic illness and disability back into exercise and physical activity. Activities within the sports medicine clinic will also include teaching and research into sports injury prevention in children and adolescents. Dr Carolyn Broderick is the former Medical Officer for the Australian Women's Basketball Team (Opals) (1996-2001), Team Doctor to the Sydney Women's Basketball Team (Flames) (1995-2000) and Team Physician to the Australian Olympic Team for the Sydney Olympic Games (2000).
The establishment of the CHISM Sports Medicine Clinic has been made possible with the generous financial support of leading Rugby Leagues Clubs Ltd, including Parramatta, Cabramatta, St Marys, Bulldogs and South Sydney Juniors Leagues Clubs Ltd. Generous financial support has also been provided by the Macquarie Charitable Foundation, Five Dock RSL Club and the NSW Sporting Injuries Committee.
CHISM has developed a strong relationship with Rugby League in NSW having completed research into the incidence of injury in Junior Rugby League in the Penrith and District Junior Rugby League Area. The Australian Rugby League and the NSW Sporting Injuries Committee funded this project.
