Sony Music keeps kids smiling

The Sony Foundation will present a cheque for $20,000 to The Children's Hospital at Westmead on Monday, 8 October at 3.30pm. This cheque represents proceeds from the sale of popular Musical Challenge CDs, a concept devised by the Andrew Denton Show on Triple M.

This CD is recordings of some of the biggest acts in popular music from Australia and internationally giving an impromptu, unplugged performance of a song selected by the breakfast team. In most cases the songs chosen are in stark contrast to the usual style of the artist and this concept has been amazingly popular.

Present at this function will be guests including Toshikazu Mashima, Managing Director of Sony Australia, Denis Handlin, CEO and Chairman of Sony Music Southern Hemisphere and Michael Ephraim, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment.

Prior to this function at 2pm, Mr Denis Handlin, CEO and Chairman of Sony Music Southern Hemisphere will present a cheque for $3000 to Radio Bed Rock, the Hospital's in-house radio station.

This donation tops off a staggering $73,000 which has been donated to Radio Bed Rock through the Gold Turkey Roast Charity over the past six years. The Gold Turkey Roast is an initiative of Mr Peter Dawkins, Head of the Parkinsons Syndrome Society who worked in the music industry for many years and decided to hold the annual Gold Turkey Roast to raise money for the Parkinsons Syndrome Society. He enlisted the support of Denis Handlin who insisted that the event also benefit Radio Bed Rock at The Children's Hospital at Westmead.

The Annual Gold Turkey Roast is attended by many identities from within the music industry and one is chosen to be "roasted" on the night by presenters and guests who make light-hearted fun of the individual. This event is a huge event on the music industry calendar, incorporating an auction of rare music memorabilia.
