Operation Art: Children Helping Children

Operation Art - an initiative of The New Children’s Hospital at Westmead, the Department of Education and Training and The Art Gallery of New South Wales - launches its 6th Exhibition at 6pm on Tuesday 1 August at Panthers World of Entertainment, Penrith.

Since its inception in 1995, Operation Art has showcased the artistic talents of many New South Wales school children. A very special program, Operation Art combines the creative spirit of children with their desire to do something to help other kids. Every year, the calibre of work continues to impress and delight all those who see the artworks.

On Tuesday night, The Hon. John Aquilina, MP, Minister for Education and Training will officially open the Exhibition of over 450 artworks. Together with their proud parents and teachers, many children attending this special function will see their art exhibited for the first time.

The New Children’s Hospital has a permanent art collection as part of its holistic approach to healthcare and the work of young children is considered as an integral part of this.

The Hospital is committed to giving the children of New South Wales a total healing environment where design, decoration, facilities, gardens and art combine with the best possible medical care to help make a child’s stay in hospital a little bit easier. Bringing a little of the outside world into a hospital has proven positive therapeutic benefits.

The artworks in this year’s Exhibition will be on display in The Pavilion at Panthers World of Entertainment, from Tuesday night and will available for viewing each day from 8.30am and 5pm until 7 August.

Fifty artworks, selected by a distinguished panel of judges, will subsequently be shown at The Art Gallery of NSW for a two-week period from 24 October to 5 November.
