Brightening The Lives Of Sick Kids
The Hon Craig Knowles MP, Minister for Health, will be launching the Operation Art 2000 display at The Art Gallery of NSW on Tuesday 24 October at 10am. The art works are the winning 50 from over 450 that have been created by children from across NSW for sick kids at The New Children's Hospital, Westmead.
The program is in its sixth year with entries each year surpassing all expectations. Operation Art is a way of involving young people in the special work of the hospital, and its arts program. "This is the second year I have had the pleasure of opening this spectacular exhibition. It is a wonderful reflection of our young people, their compassion for other children and their commitment to making a difference," the Minister said.
"The Government ensures that the very best medical treatment is provided to the State's sickest children at the Hospital. Programmes like Operation Art help to make their Hospital experience a positive one."
All entries were displayed at Panthers World of Entertainment, Penrith in August with children who entered their work travelling from across the State to see it.
The 50 works to be hung at The Art Gallery of NSW will be on display until November 4. The art works become part of the permanent collection of children's art on display at The New Children's Hospital, Westmead.
"I am delighted to be involved in this most exciting event. It demonstrates the great achievements that can be secured by government agencies working together for the well being of our community," the Minister said.
Operation Art is an initiative of The New Children's Hospital, Westmead, The NSW Department of Education and Training and The Art Gallery of NSW.
