Clinical Support Officer

The Clinical Support Officer (CSO) role will be ward/unit based and support the work activities of nurses, medical staff and allied health staff, with locally determined shift times based on patient and ward/unit service delivery needs. The CSO may provide CSO functions across the health facility or to more than one ward/unit. The CSO will work closely with existing administrative staff such as ward clerks and communication officers at the ward/unit level. The role will complement existing roles, systems and processes in each organisation. The CSO will provide timely and accurate administrative/transactional services for members of the health care team on designated ward(s)/unit(s) under the direction of a Nursing Unit Manager (NUM). The CSO will work under broad supervision but will be required to take some independent action. Scope exists for exercising initiative in the application of established work practices and procedures.

Criteria: Holds or is willing to undertake a Certificate Ill in Health Administration or equivalent. Excellent communication skills including accurate spelling, good comprehension, confidence in the spoken word and ability to deal confidently and courteously with people at all levels. Paediatric Dietitian

To provide a high quality nutrition and dietetic service to both inpatients and outpatients and their families as part of the tertiary clinical paediatric service of the Dept of Nutrition and Dietetics. This clinical dietetic service specialises in paediatrics encompassing neonatology, infancy and childhood through to adolescence and addresses the specific nutrition and dietetic requirements, growth and dietary patterns and educational challenges pertaining to each stage of childhood development. Clinical areas covered may include, but are not limited to: cystic fibrosis, ketogenic diets, intensive care, burns, cardiology, neonatology, gastroenterology, neurology, allergy, eating disorders, adolescence, gastrostomies and disability and general paediatric nutrition, feeding and growth. Patients may present medical, social or geographic circumstances of a complex nature. This position requires independent professional judgement on routine matters. The successful applicant works with minimal direct professional supervision. This positions functions as part of a team of dietitians, technical and support staff. Provision and development of resources are necessary with the overall aim of a safe, appropriate, effective, efficient and responsive service. Education and clinical supervision of dietetic students, health professionals and the wider community is required. Application of evidence based practice is encouraged.

Criteria: Eligible for full membership of Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA). Relevant clinical experience demonstrating appropriate specialist paediatric knowledge. Demonstrates independent professional judgement and flexibility in solving problems and managing cases. Experience in providing clinical services to client groups and circumstances of a complex nature. Experience in education activities for clinical dietetic students and other health professionals.

The Children's Cancer Research Unit studies mechanisms underlying the development and progression of cancer and is committed to both basic and translational research. The Focal Adhesion Biology research group in the CCRU has recently been awarded NHMRC project grant funding to investigate the role of the molecule NEDD9 in the progression of glioblastoma brain tumours. We are looking for a part-time research assistant with demonstrated practical experience in measuring focal adhesion dynamics in migrating cells and with a sound working knowledge of the signalling pathways regulating focal adhesion turnover. This is a short-term position for one year and successful applicants must have a first class Honours degree and reside in Australia.

Criteria: A First Class Honours degree in Cell Biology. Evidence of a sound working knowledge of the signalling pathways regulating focal adhesion turnover. Demonstrated expertise in culturing mammalian cell lines. Demonstrated competency with time-lapse fluorescence microscopy and experience using Metamorph software to track. Willingness to work with mouse models. Training and practical experience in cell biology. Excellent organisational, communication and record-keeping skills. Ability to work in a team.
