Undergradute Nursing Pool for 2009
The Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW) is inviting applications from student nurses to work as casual pool staff in the exciting and challenging specialty of paediatric nursing for 2009. This is your opportunity to gain valuable experience in a hospital setting to complement your studies!
Selection Criteria
Your application will be assessed using the following selection criteria.
ESSENTIAL:
- Have completed 2nd year of undergraduate nursing course, and will be enrolled in third year of undergraduate nursing course in 2009
- Have worked in a paediatric placement in second year and/or planning to have a paediatric placement in 3rd year of nursing university degree.
- Desire to work with children and families.
- Commitment to team work.
- Excellent communication skills.
DESIRABLE:
- Previous experience or exposure to caring for children and families.
- Previous experience as an Assistant In Nursing.
Shifts offered
Shifts offered include:
- both weekday and weekend shifts;
- 4, 6, 8 or 10 hours (the 10 hour shifts are night duty only). 12 hour shifts are also offered in selected areas.

Rate of pay
The rate of pay is consistent with the Assistant in Nursing classification, in accordance with The Public Hospital Nurses (State) Award.
Uniform
Successful applicants may wear white tops and navy trousers, slacks or skirts or purchase the Hospital's nursing uniform.

Interviews
Interviews will be held on Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th November 2008.
If you are successful for an interview, you will be contacted by phone to confirm an interview date and time.
Information for successful applicants
- There will be a compulsory 4 day orientation (dates TBA)
- To ensure adequate exposure to the clinical environment, all applicants must work a minimum of 4 shifts by the beginning of March 2009.
- In order to sustain clinical skills, undergraduates will then be expected to work at least once in every 4 week time period.
