What is involved in the First Year Registered Nurse Transition Program at CHW?
The program consists of supported clinical experience in the paediatric health care setting. Participants are required to complete compulsory assessable learning components including work based learning assessments and theoretical modules. Successful completion of these components at a post-graduate level will lead to eligibility for recognition of prior learning at a Graduate Certificate Level. When is the next intake?
The CHW First year Registered Nurse currently has one intake per year which is planned for the 4 February 2013.
Can I change the start date of the Program?
No, the start date cannot be changed. If you are not registered or able to start by the 4th February 2013, we recommend you apply for a position in another Area Health Service.
How many positions are offered at CHW?
Positions will be offered in a range of clinical areas across the organisation with the program consisting of a twelve month non-rotational position. The number of positions offered in the program is reviewed annually with information available at the time of interview.
How do I apply for a position for 2013?
All positions for the 2013 First Year Registered Nurse Transition Program at The Children's Hospital at Westmead must be made on-line via the Nursing & Midwifery Office. No applications outside of this process will be considered.
If I am currently working in the Hospital as an undergraduate, do I need to go through this process?
Yes, all applications for The Children's Hospital at Westmead: First Year Registered Nurse Transition Program will only be accepted through the central application process at the NSW Health Nursing & Midwifery Office.
I would like to do my Honours in 2013, can I still apply to the New Graduate Program?
We encourage Honours students to apply as we offer an individualised program to support you through your Honours Program.
Who is eligible to apply?
1st year Registered Nurses (RNs) who are eligible for registration as a nurse prior to the agreed date of commencement of employment i.e. 4/2/13.The First Year RN Program is for first year registered nurses who have not worked as an RN previously.
When can I apply?
The on-line applications open Monday 4th June and close Monday 16th July at 9am. You must apply within this timeframe.
What information do I need to know about applying for a position?
We recommend you read through the NSW Health Guidelines for NG RN recruitment which can be found at www.health.nsw.gov.au/nursing/employment/recruit.asp the website contains all the information you need to know about your application and the processes following. If you would like to apply for a position at CHW, you will need to list CHW as your Number 1 preference. We also recommend you read the CHW 1st Year RN Program Brochure.
When are the interviews?
The interviews will be held at CHW in the week commencing 13 August 2012. Following the on-line application closing date, you will be contacted via email regarding an interview time. Please familiarise yourself with the selection criteria prior to your interview.
What do I need to bring to interview?
This information is outlined in the Graduate Nurse RN & Midwives Recruitment Guidelines 2013 found at www.health.nsw.gov.au/nursing/employment/index.asp. Please read all information outlined thoroughly. If all the required documents that are outlined are not brought to interview, you will not be interviewed for a position.
When do I find out if I have been offered a position?
A letter indicating whether you are successful or unsuccessful will be sent via email to you on the 5th October 2012.
