Christmas lights shine bright

For three years, Peter and Lauraine Overton have been raising funds for The Children's Hospital at Westmead through a stunning display of Christmas lights at their Quakers Hill residence. Their December 2006 display included a nativity scene, Santa's workshop, Christmas train, waterfall and lots of snow, with Santa's sleigh and reindeers completing the picture on the rooftop.

Kids had their photos taken with Santa in his sleigh. They could also drop letters into Santa's mailbox, with the Overtons ensuring that 'Santa' replied every letter. Costumed characters - Frosty the Snowman, bon bons and a gingerbread man - added to the Christmas spirit mingling with the visitors and onlookers, whilst the Salvation Army Band played at the front of the house.

We thank Peter and Lauraine for their tremendous efforts and support! You too can raise funds for The Children's Hospital at Westmead through your 2007 Christmas lights display. For more information, please phone our Fundraising Department on (02) 9845 3367.

Christmas is fast approaching...

With only four months to go, Christmas is fast approaching!

Last year, over $20,000 was raised through all of those who created magical displays at Christmas time, decorating their homes with vibrant colour through The Children's Hospital at Westmead's Christmas Lights program.

The Christmas Lights program provides much needed funds for the Hospital & plays a valuable part in helping us to transform the lives of seriously ill children & support their families.

If you would like more information on how you can help, please contact the Fundraising Department on 9845 3367.

Let's Celebrate

Whether it is a birthday, wedding, baby shower, anniversary or any other special celebration, your guests can donate in lieu of gifts & send their donation in the reply paid envelope. Once we receive it, they will be issued with a tax deductible receipt (for all donations over $2).

The celebration organiser will then receive a letter from the Hospital, advising them of the names of the guests who donated & how much was raised.

If you would like to receive celebration envelopes or would like further information, please call us on (02) 9845 3367.

Angel Eyes

Story added: 27th of September, 2006

John Hupfeld wrote and sings 'Angel Eyes' in loving memory of his 3-year-old daughter, Montana (Missy Moo), who passed away in February of this year from Leukaemia.

Montana loved to sing and dance and John would sing to Montana everyday.

John now wants to share his song with the world, and bring comfort and a time of reflection for anyone who may have lost a loved one.

Channel Crossing for Life

Kaise Stephan plans to swim the English Channel in 2008 to raise funds for the cancer unit. Here are a few words from Kaise himself.....

There are a few strong reasons as to why I am doing this.

Firstly, I am fundraising for The Children's Hospital at Westmead because I have an affected family member, my 13 year old cousin Mark, who is currently undergoing Chemotherapy treatment for Leukaemia. During the times that I have visited Mark, I have appreciated the work of the staff to help children overcome cancer, to lead happy healthy lives and contribute to our society's future. I would like to contribute my time and effort to help them do the very best job that they can, by not only reactively managing cancer with current technologies but proactively conducting research in pursuit of better treatments or maybe a cure.

Secondly, I decided to swim the English Channel to raise the funds because I have been swimming and training for a long time and I wanted to combine something that I can do well whilst raising funds for this very worthy cause.

The combination of a Channel swim and a children's cancer research fund raiser is a unique one. Approximately only 800 people have swum the Channel throughout the history of mankind (since Channel crossings first began around 150 years ago), it is a most grueling, tiresome and endurance-based feat, so to choose that feat as a basis to raise funds indicates how strong I feel about The Children's Hospital at Westmead.

My attempt at the Channel crossing is booked for July 2008, This will give me enough time to train and increase my strength and endurance whilst seeking as many sponsors for the cause as possible.

I dedicate the swim to the Cancer Unit of The Children's Hospital at Westmead, whose work I admire and appreciate.

Kaise Stephan.
