Get Involved - Individuals
For many people a tattoo is a symbol of special meaning.
Tom Hobbs has a tattoo stamped indelibly on his forearm - and it features the Hospital's Bandaged Bear mascot. Tom is passionate about helping our young cancer patients and his tattoo holds particular significance because it gives him the inspiration to complete the marathons he runs to raise money for our Cancer Unit.
Since 1998 Tom has raised over $13,000 to help our childhood cancer research and support programs - and he's still going! Tom started running to get fit and since then has completed numerous marathons to raise funds for young children with cancer. Tom completed the 160km Lake Taupo Cycling Challenge last year and is planning to tackle this major event again this year.
Tom has been such an inspiration to his workmates at Toukley RSL that they decided to put on a Benefit Night in June to raise funds for the children that Tom cares so much about. They all worked together to put on a brilliant revue night with sketches, songs, dances and music by staff and friends to raise over $5000 for children with cancer. Team work and inspiration are the two magic ingredients and they all had such a thoroughly enjoyable time that they are doing it again this year!
Tom is really an inspirational man and it is thanks to people like Tom, who decide one day to help sick kids that we can provide the quality of care that we do for children with cancer. Thanks Tom - you are a legend.
