Bequests
Making your Will
A Will is your gift to the people and causes that were important to you during your lifetime. It is also the only way to make sure that your wishes are carried out after your death. Yet much of Australia's population still fail to make a Will. Without a valid Will, your entire estate will be settled intestate, depriving your loved ones and favourite charities of your generosity.
To assist you make your Will, The Children's Hospital at Westmead has a number of solicitors throughout NSW who participate in our Honorary Solicitors Program and Wills Days. All solicitors who participate in our Honorary Solicitors Program and Wills Days donate their services free of charge to clients who provide The Children's Hospital at Westmead with a bequest in their Will.

How to provide a bequest to The Children's Hospital at Westmead
You may choose to provide The Children's Hospital at Westmead with one of the following bequests in your Will:
Residual bequest - this is the remainder of your estate after all other bequests and expenses have been deducted.
Pecuniary bequest - this is a gift of a specified amount of money, for example $5,000.

Bequest Wording
Thank you for your interest in including a bequest to The Children's Hospital at Westmead in your Will. It is important that your bequest is worded correctly and the following is recommended as a guide. You may wish to give this wording to the solicitor who is preparing your Will.
Residual Bequest
"I give and bequeath to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children, known as The Children's Hospital at Westmead, in aid of that institution and for its general purposes, the residue of my Estate for which the receipt of the Treasurer or other authorised Officer shall be an absolute discharge."
Pecuniary Bequest
"I give and bequeath to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children, known as The Children's Hospital at Westmead in aid of the institution and for its general purposes, the sum of $.... for which the receipt of the Treasurer or other authorised Officer shall be an absolute discharge."
You can also specify what unit within the Hospital you would like your bequest to assist, for example, Bear Cottage, Cancer, Burns, Research, Cardiology etc. To do this you simply substitute the wording "General Purposes" with the name of the unit you would like to assist. The Children's Hospital at Westmead has been endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a deductible gift recipient and an income tax exempt charitable entity for tax purposes.
