Children's Hospital Advisory Council

The members of the Children's Hospital Advisory Council (CHAC) were appointed by the Minister for Health, John Hatzistergos, in December, 2005.

Below is an extract from the Minister's Media Release:

"The newly appointed CHAC members will provide significant local clinical and community leadership within the health system. The role of CHAC is to facilitate the involvement of providers and consumers of health services and of other members of the local community in the development of The Children's Hospital at Westmead policies, plans and initiatives for the provision of health services.

CHAC will also have the responsibility to oversee the expenditure of funds raised through donations to the Hospital.

The formation of the local advisory councils is a key strategy in the reform of health services across the state.

Members have been selected for their understanding of the health challenges facing NSW communities. They bring a unique perspective on the issues confronting their local area.

CHAC is a crucial part of the State Government's strong and detailed plans to ensure that local communities and clinicians play an integral role in the planning and development of health services.

CHAC will work with the Chief Executive of The Children's Hospital at Westmead to ensure that clinicians, patients and the community are effectively engaged and consulted.

CHAC will play a crucial role in providing advice on issues such as health service planning and workforce development."
